Isolation 2020

This series was focused on isolation. I wanted to evoke a sense of sadness but also a sense of nostalgia and familiarity. The title foreshadows the times when quarantine and lockdown felt so prominent and normal in society. When the streets felt abandoned and the silence was louder than ever. No kids playing in the streets or voices in the distance. Just the sound of wind and car alarms. These images also foreshadow a sense of time and abandonment. Things that are left behind yet have so many memories and stories behind them. Like a rusted basketball hoop for example; what young kids dreams of being in the NBA started on this basket when he made his first three pointer a decade ago. A baby seat on the side of the street. What terrible thing led to a baby seat being abandoned. As much as some of these photos evoke sadness, I hope they also allow you to see things deeper than just objects as everything in this beautiful life can tell us a story.

Scary Excitement

This portrait series captures the energy, freedom and chaotic nature that comes with graduating college and stepping into a new stage of life. Through ten images of friends, classmates and roommates, I wanted to show the release of pressure after years of rigid structure, harsh deadlines, heavy responsibilities and overall, high expectations. Instead of focusing on the typical traditional polished graduation photos (hands at your side, slight tilted head, slight smile at the camera), I wanted to highlight the pure chaotic and emotional moments that feel more honest to this transition in life - the strange feeling of celebrating an accomplishment but also stepping into uncertainty. I also wanted to show the sense of human connection and represent what has been built the last for years in a place we all called home. I wanted to capture all of these emotions through exaggerated poses, laughter and unpredictable moments, truly showcases the unpredictability of the near future.  Overall, the photographs create a portrait of immature youth, acquired friendships and the temporary exciting yet nerve-racking freedom that exists in the moments before life fully moves on to the next chapter.
